  • Orchestra raise £1,000 for village in Moldova

    Henry James

MAGHULL Wind Orchestra raised more than £1,000 for one of Europe’s poorest communities at a concert at Maghull Baptist Church last Saturday, October 13.

The community band, conducted by Phil Shotton, turned out to support a campaign by the charity Breadline, which works with churches in Eastern Europe to improve basic living conditions for thousands of people.

Saturday’s concert was a fund-raiser for the village of Dancu in Moldova.

Admission to the concert was free but a total of £1,035 was raised by donations from the audience.

Brian Pile, executive director of Breadline, and Pastor Slavic Duman, minister of the church in Dancu, attended the concert.

Pastor Slavic said: “I am so grateful to the wonderful musicians and the lovely people of Maghull who have come to support us . This money will make a real difference to people who are struggling for food and fuel as winter approaches.”

Maghull Wind Orchestra have raised around £25,000 for charitable causes over the last five years.
