Cash boost for Friends
Friends of St Joseph’s were delighted to be given a boost of more than £7,400 which was raised by customers of a supermarket.
Ainsdale’s Co-Op manager Richard Henderson presented a cheque for £7,414 to chairman Mike Miller and the Friends of St Joseph’s committee. The group provides support for St Joseph’s Adult Services on Blundell Avenue in Formby - and plan to use the funds towards buying a new wheelchair-accessible minibus.
The Friends of St Joseph’s Committee was one of three groups chosen to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund scheme. Under the annual scheme, members of the Co-op were able to raise funds for the group by swiping their membership cards whenever they shop at their local store buying Co-Op branded stock.
Through this scheme, a grand total of £21,500 was raised, which was split by customers’ choice between the 4th Formby Scouts, who got £7,057 to buy new camping equipment and the West Lancs and Sefton branch of the national Melanoma Society, who plan to use their chunk of the funds, £7,022, for their campaign raising awareness of the symptoms with local GPs.
