More arrests in bid to tackle knife crime
IT has been another busy week for Target Team officers engaged on Operation Fleece, set up to target knife crime in Skelmersdale.
While conducting patrols on the High Street in Old Skelmersdale, Target Team officers stop-searched and subsequently arrested two males, aged 27 and 21, on suspicion of burglary and of weapons and drugs offences.
The pair, who can’t be named for legal reasons, have been released under investigation.
Meanwhile Target Team officers in Old Skelmersdale also stop-searched and subsequently arrested two males, aged 38 and 26, on Sherrat Street, on suspicion of being concerned in supplying Class A drugs.
The men, one from Skelmersdale and one from Liverpool, were detained in custody overnight while searches were conducted at their home addresses. They have also been released under investigation.
Police have also reported several people for theft and minor drugs offences as the result of proactive stop checks.
Writing on their social media page, a spokesperson for Skelmersdale Police stated: “The team will continue its work in Skelmersdale specifically targeting knife crime. We will conduct patrols in the coming weeks and anyone found in possession of offensive weapons will be dealt with accordingly.”
