  • Balloons released in memory of Cassie

    Henry James

FRIENDS and family of Cassie Hayes who died following a horrific attack in Tui on Chapel Street, came together on the seafront at Southport last Saturday to release balloons in her memory.

Cassie, 28, died just before 1.30pm on Saturday, January 13 and the balloon release was organised to mark a month since the awful event.

The balloon release took place opposite the Guelder Rose pub on Marine Drive at about 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, the landlady of the Wellington pub on Eastbank Street, Annie McTaggart, 65, hosted a family-friendly fund-raising event, also on Saturday, February 10. The event included live music, entertainment, food, raffles and auctions. The event was to raise funds for Cassie’s four-year-old daughter Ruby.

Cassie’s friend and co-worker Sammy Jayne wrote on social media: “Amazing turn out for our Cass. Shine bright babes. Forever loved and forever missed.”
