South Ribble MP praises childrens centre in Parliament
by David Simister

A NEW childrens' centre in Hesketh Bank which was opened at the end of last month has been praised by the village's MP in the House of Commons.

South Ribble MP Lorraine Fullbrook congratulated the team behind the Hesketh Bank Children's Centre in a speech in the House of Commons last Tuesday (Ferbuary 8), following a ceremony on January 28 where she helped to officially open the centre for the first time.

“I was absolutely delighted to officially open Hesketh Bank Children’s Centre and see firsthand what an excellent service and support it will provide for young families in the area. The success of projects like this really is dependent on dedicated staff, like Steph Critchley and her team. I’m pleased that the centre will also work closely with health visitors, midwives, community groups and local schools, particularly Hesketh with Beconsall School,” she said.

“This is a great example of ‘The Big Society’ in action. It is clear to see that this project has come about because of the hard work and co-operation of the school and its staff, the County Council and local enterprise.”

Mrs Fullbrook said she told the Minister of State for Education, Sarah Teather MP, about the essential work that the staff at the Shore Road site do to help families and communities in the local community and asked how more talented and committed people can be encouraged to work in early years education.

The site, located alongside All Saints Primary School, was opened by the MP, who also toured a new greenhouse site opened at the school.

“Mrs Lorraine Fulbrook opened the new greenhouse belonging to Worms and Wellies growing club. The junior children who attend this afer-school gardening club were also on hand to celebrate,” the school said in a statement on its website.

“The greenhouse was paid for by money from Friends of the School and some money which the club won last year. This year the children intend to grow many different types of vegetables and fruit and enter more competitions.”
