We will rock you!

A GROUP of aspiring singers, dancers and rockstars proved that Tarleton's got talent recently when they went head to head as part of a school contest.

No less than 25 very different acts took part in Tarleton High School's annual talent show, held on Friday, January 6, during a three hour extravaganza which was attended by 250 pupils and parents from the school, making choosing the winners a tricky task for the judges.

Lyndsey Bradshaw, one of the school's teachers, said:

“The whole evening was a huge success and everyone who took part and attended thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Pupils from all year groups took part and presented their talents as singers, dancers and rock musicians.

”The competition itself was judged by drama teacher Mr Gary Ball, former maths teacher and regular visitor to the school Mrs Liz Cheetham and Open Mic UK finalist Lauren Brown, who also performed at the event. However, judging the event cannot have been an easy task with the standard of talent that was offered.“

The school said that tickets to the event, which went on sale earlier that week, were all sold out within minutes due to the popularity of the contest within the school, and that each of the 25 artists and performers all managed to get a standing ovation from the crowd.

Taking third place was Year 11 rock band PR4, but the judges, who struggled to pick the winners from the excellent talent shown during the evening, decided to join first and second place and award two acts into a joint first award.

The first of these two acts was Year 9 pupil Chloe Dent who performed Jason Mraz’s ‘I’m Yours’ and had all pupils up on their feet dancing and singing during her performance. The second of the first prize winners was a year 11 girls dance group who performed a dance number to a mash up of songs including Willow Smith’s ‘Whip My Hair’.
