Kids revel in new play adventure
by David Simister

AN adventure playground which opened earlier this year in Burscough has been an exciting attraction for children, the county council has said this week.

The Manor Road play area, a joint venture with West Lancashire Borough Council, was proving popular with children and families who are enjoying the new facility.

County councillor Mark Perks, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for young people, said: “I am delighted that young people in Burscough are getting so much fun and pleasure out of this wonderful play area. It's absolutely vital that young people are able to play outside in an environment that's safe but also challenging.

”In Burscough, the feedback from the young people has been very positive.“

The play area, which is aimed at children between the ages of eight and 13, includes a spaceship slide, a tunnel, wobbly walkway, a climbing frame, swinging boat and swings, and was made possible thanks to a £47,000 under the county council's Playbuilder scheme.

Councillor Andrew Fowler, cabinet member for Community Services and Health at the borough council, added: ”This excellent new facility has provided the community in Burscough with somewhere for children and families to enjoy. The natural timber design also means it blends in well with the rest of Manor Road Park.

“This is another example of the investment into leisure facilities by the borough council to complement the money already spent not only in Burscough, but Ormskirk and Skelmersdale too.”

The playground, which is fully adapted for disabled access, one of 26 across the county of Lancashire.
