Grant scheme boosts restaurant
by David Simister

A BURSCOUGH restaurant has been given a boost by a county-wide business support scheme, it has been revealed this week.

Lancashire County Council said that Rosebud Business Solution, its investment organisation to help small and medium businesses, had given a helping hand to the Blue Mallard restaurant, which opened earlier this month as part of the new Burscough Wharf development.

West Lancashire West County Councillor William Cropper welcomed the investment, and said:

“We are very pleased that another new business is setting up in the town, bringing more jobs and business to the area.

”Rosebud's package of finance and support is specially designed to help businesses, whether new start-ups or enabling existing ones to grow. I believe Rosebud has helped create something special in Burscough, as the talented Blue Mallard team bring a new dining experience in a fabulous setting.“

The company behind The Blue Mallard, Knife and Spoon Limited and its three directors Chris Crowell, Matthew Holleran and Leon Swift, have also praised the helping hand given to them by the local authority. The trio will be sharing the running of the business between them.

Chris Crowell said:

”Our account manager Paul was a real star in helping us with our Rosebud application and making sure we had a cracking business plan. We have had lots of ongoing support once the loan was approved, so we were not just left in the deep end! “The funding has helped with all the costs associated with setting up the restaurant including fittings, furniture, opening stock and licenses.”

The restaurant is part of a much bigger scheme, which has breathed new life into 12,000 square feet of disused canalside buildings by creating a major , new leisure and retail destination.

Funding for Rosebud is provided by Lancashire County Developments Ltd - the county council's economic development company - as part of the council's broad package of investment and advice. It is managed on their behalf by Enterprise Ventures.
