Campaigners to stage second protest against store giant
by Natasha Young

CAMPAIGNERS will stage a second protest in Ainsdale Village this Saturday (March 12), in a bid to stop Tesco from moving into the area.

Local councillors, residents and traders supporting the “No Tesco in Ainsdale Village” campaign are being urged to take part in the march, starting at the Methodist Church Hall on Liverpool Road at 11am and passing through the village.

Campaigners will stop for a few moments at the Sherwood House site, where it is feared four small shops and one currently vacant shop could be lost if the supermarket giant, which at this stage has only expressed an interest in the site, opens a branch.

Councillor Brenda Porter told The Champion: “We need all the support we can get as while Tesco are telling me they don't want to go against community feelings they have not withdrawn their interest.”

Doors to the church hall will open at 10.30am ahead of the event.
