Hospital extension plan wins councillors' backing
by David Simister

WEST Lancashire councillors have approved a plan to extend a private hospital but they have delegated a final decision on the scheme until an investigation of the site has been completed.

Members of the borough council's planning committee considered the plan submitted by Renacres Hospital to extend their site on Renacres Lane at a meeting last Thursday and agreed in principle.

The hospital management wants to build a two-storey extension to its neurological wing and outpatient departments among other improvements - a smaller scheme than a previous plan to extend the hospital which was blocked by councillors in February last year.

However, the committee's recommendations for approval for the new scheme stipulate that the council's executive manager for planning, along with the chairman and vice chairman of the planning committee should investigate restricting the use of the extensions for neurological treatment only following concerns about development on green belt land.
