Community garden takes root in Ainsdale
by Natasha Young

A PLANTING programme is about to mark the completion of the new Ainsdale Community Garden.

Over the past 18 months, the community group has led a project to create a tranquil space within the grounds of Ainsdale Village Church on Station Road, which can be enjoyed by local residents.

Ainsdale councillor Brenda Porter, who has offered help and advice with work on the garden, said: “Located in the heart of Ainsdale Village it will provide beauty, peace and tranquility for a close knit community who will both value and appreciate that this is the first garden in Sefton created by the community for the community.

”The land providing the garden is part of Ainsdale Village Church and throughout the last 18 months their community group have aimed for excellence to provide a garden we can all be proud.“

Benches were installed at the site last week, as finishing touches are underway, and church secretary Jenny Boulton said: ”We have so many people to thank for their support and the ten seats being fitted are superb, all hand made at the Coast and Countryside workshops here in Ainsdale. Local residents have sponsored the seats so it is an added delight that they are so good.“

Cllr Porter added: ”It will be awesome when completed and the location in the midst of our village is perfect. The church has provided us with a facility that will benefit the community long into the future.“

Anyone who would like to offer funding support for the planting at the site is asked to contact the treasurer, Mr Whitehead, on: 01704 578047.
