Tarleton driving instructor launches new qualification
by David Simister

A DRIVING instructor from Tarleton is one of just a few across the country to offer a brand new type of safety qualification to younger motorists.

Steve Allen of Tarleton School of Motoring told The Champion that he is one of a select few instructors qualified to teach the new BTEC level 2 award Demonstrate Safe Driving, which was officially launched on Monday (April 4).

“At Tarleton School of Motoring we a proud to be able to offer this qualification that is set to take the place of the Pass Plus course, we believe this is a much better course and gives the candidate a much better understanding of road safety and the implications of poor driving styles and not maintaining your car properly,” he said.

“Here at Tarleton School of Motoring in conjunction with EDEXCEL and Any Driver Ltd, we are one of the first driving schools in the UK to be able to offer this.”

Mr Allen told The Champion that he is one of just 20 instructors across the north west who is qualified to teach the new course, which supersedes the Pass Plus course and is aimed at giving newly-qualified drivers a better understanding of road safety.

The course, which aims to offer new drivers a more comprehensive qualification than the Pass Plus but with similar insurance benefits, is an academic qualification in its own right and can be used in college and university applications, and is overseen by examinations body EDEXCEL
