Martin Mere staff welcome first baby gosling
by David Simister

SPRING has sprung at a West Lancashire wildfowl reserve, as this cute picture of one of its latest arrivals shows this week.

Staff at Martin Mere, based near Burscough, sent over this shot of one of four Nene goslings which were born at the WWT-run site on March 24, and added that with the spring weather here there should be plenty of newly-born birds for visitors to see.

Andy Wooldridge, centre manager at Martin Mere, said:

“With having such a harsh winter, the birds are laying their eggs slightly later than usual but I am pleased that duckling season has finally begun. It is always a joy to see the goslings.

”We are really hopeful for a successful breeding season this year.“
