Vintage car fans at steam show
by David Simister

TWO vintage car enthusiasts from Thornton were among the visitors to a steam-themed rally held in West Lancashire last weekend.

Ron and Jo Low took their 1935 Austin Seven to the Riverside Steam and Vintage Rally in Banks last Saturday (April 16) for an event which saw the sunshine on hundreds of enthusiasts, who had come to see steam machinery and classic vehicles from years gone by.

The event was held at the Riverside Holiday Park, in Banks, for the Riverside Steam and Vintage Rally, which this year saw steam engines owned by the late Fred Dibnah becoming the stars of the show.

George Harrison of Harrison Leisure, which owns the Riverside site, said: “We are delighted that our premises are being used to put something back into the community and also raising funds for much needed causes.”

Over 500 steam vehicles and vintage and classic cars took part in the event, helping to raise money for charities based in Merseyside and Lancashire.
