New show for BOS
by Natasha Young

FOLLOWING the successful run of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical ‘The Likes of Us', the Birkdale Orpheus Society is thrilled to announce its next exciting production is a new version of the musical ‘Half a Sixpence'.

The society are ready to ‘Flash, Bang, Wallop' and blow audiences away with the new version which features nine new songs and is a fun packed all singing and dancing musical comedy set in the late Victorian/Edwardian period and based on the novel ‘Kipps' by H. G. Wells.

The story follows Kipps (Gavin Hodson) the oldest apprentice at Shalford's drapery emporium; Ann (Helen Bench) his childhood sweetheart; Helen (Chloe Davies) and an assortment of friends old and new in a timeless story of happiness and, of course, money. Can Kipps find happiness with Ann? What is happiness anyway? Will Kipps ever buy a banjo?

With a stream of colourful costumes and a dynamic set of ensemble song and dance numbers Birkdale Orpheus Society's energetic cast bring the excitement of the show to life assisted by their production team, director Elspeth Fisher, choreographer Kate Halsall, music coach Doreen Bridson and orchestra MD Jeff Rimmer.

The show promises to be fun for the whole family so head down to the Little Theatre, Southport and meet Kipps and friends from May 14 -21st at 7.30pm. (Matinee on Saturday May 21 at 2pm)

The Box Office opens on May 7 from 11am – 2.30pm. Call 01704 530521 or the advance ticket sales number on 01704 564042.
