'Unknown' village club bids for revival
by David Simister

A COMMUNITY club which has served Scarisbrick for more than 60 years has become “unknown” to many of the village's residents.

Now Scarisbrick National Services Club, which was formed during the Second World War, is launching a drive to promote its activities - including slashing membersip fees - in bid to boost dwindling membership.

said membership numbers had plummeted in recent years and it has now cut its fees in a bid to recuit new members.

The club's committee has issued a statement which says: “Scarisbrick National Services Club was formed in 1943. As the title suggests original membership was for service and associated personnel.

”However, the number has diminished over the years and the club name is a little misleading in current times. Membership is open to anybody within the area of Scarisbrick and surrounding districts. A major finding during this time was that many people including local residents did not know the club existed at the end of Bullens Lane.“

It was decided at the annual general meeting that every effort must made to promote the club. As a result, membership fee was been reduced to £10 ( from £35) for social members and £25 if you participate in any of the sporting facilities.

The club is also planning a number of aevents to promote the club, including its first real ale festival at Bullens Lane between Friday, May 20, and Sunday, May 22.

Admission costs £3 for the evenings, £2 for the Saturday afternoon and £3 for Sunday.

For more information about the club and any of the events they are organising, contact either 01704 880288 or 01695 580755.
