Farms turn from turnips to turbines
by David Simister

FARMERS from across West Lancashire got talking all things turbines at an eco-minded event held in Scarisbrick last week.

Representatives from farms across the borough travelled to Turfland, on Southport Road, to see a demonstration of the Irish-made C&F wind turbines, which can not only produced green energy but also help farmers pocket a tidy profit by selling surplus energy back to the National Grid.

Marc Stanton, Clean Power Operations commercial director, said:

“With rising energy prices on everyone’s minds and an interest in making money from farming the wind rather than the earth; many of West Lancashire’s most successful farmers came down to earth with a bump, when they realized how much money they could earn from the latest type of wind turbine.

”The Government is so keen to meet its Renewable Energy targets, that there are considerable cash incentives available to anyone that has a certified wind turbine on their land. Farmers can earn up to £75,000 per year from the Feed in Tariffs and use all the electricity produced for free or sell it to the National Grid.“

C&F brought over from Ireland a full 20kW turbine head to be inspected by visitors to the event and to give people a chance to ask questions of the manufacturers. Several orders were taken at the event, with Clean Power Operations adding that as many as four turbines due to be installed in the West Lancashire area.
