Portrait art pays off for pupils
by David Simister

A GROUP of talented young artists who created portraits of Skelmersdale's shoppers have returned to the town to show off their creations.

Last month The Champion reported on the creative children at Hillside Primary School drawing shoppers at The Concourse Shopping Centre, and last Tuesday (May 7) they paid a visit to the town's library to present their artworks, which have now been fully painted.

Ruth Ainsworth, who has been mentoring the group, said: “They took the drawings they had made in the Concourse three weeks ago and made a great job of painting them with swirls of colour, plenty of character and fantastic frames.

”This will be the second time the work has been shown as it has also been seen in the Wayfarers Arcade in Southport during the half term holidays.

“One of the pupils' painting was spotted by a local art collector who has made her an offer to buy the painting.

She is considering her price at the moment but another pupil suggested that she charge £23 - a pound for each of them in her class.”

The artworks will be on show at Skelmersdale Library until the end of the school term.
