Rock festival on doorstep
by David Simister

IF GLASTONBURY was too far to travel, then there's another event with a rock flavour on the way - Parbold Village Festival!

The Parbold Village Festival committee told The Champion this week that this year's event, the 15th to be held in the village, will have a rock ‘n' roll theme, with performances from local bands alongside the traditional draws at the event.

Ann Veevers, committee secretary, said: “The theme of this year's festival is rock ‘n' roll and there will be an inter-school dance competition for the children, Attractions this year will include the ever popular show exhibits, Barn Owl Bill, circus skills workshop and local dance display.

”Local band Route 66 will also be performing live, as well as jazz band Frisky Jazz, together with the usual stalls, tombolda, refreshment marquees, the inter-pub tug-of-war and much, much more.“

The festival will also feature, as usual, exhibits in the village show and adults and childtren alike are being urged to get creatuve and enter their finest works into a series of exhibits being showcased on the day, including new fun classes such as the longest carrot and the funniest photo of a face. Entry forms are available from Parbold DIY centre or the village library, on The Common. All entries must be submitted by 5.30pm next Tuesday, July 5.

This year's Parbold Village Festival will take place from 1pm on Saturday, July 9, with prizes and trophies being presented at 4pm. For more information contact Anne Pryer on 01257 462176 or
