Village gardens open to public
by Henry James

NINE gardens in Newburgh will be open to the public when the village stages its fourth Open Gardens Day this Sunday (July 10) between 12.30pm and 5pm.

People can buy tickets in advance from Newburgh Post Office or on the day at the first garden visited. The price is £2.50 for adults, children free. Refreshments, including cream teas, are available.

“Once again visitors will be able to see some of the secrets of Newburgh’s gardens”, said the event organiser, Maureen Turner. “The gardens, large and small, offer an interesting variety of designs with a wide range of planting.”

The last Open Day attracted around 400 visitors from Lancashire and adjacent counties. It raised over £1,000 for children’s amenities in the village.
