Martin's hoping to make a spectacle of himself
by Natasha Young

A STYLE-setter from Southport has been picked from hundreds of hopefuls to reach the North West final of the Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2011 contest.

Martin Withall, 24, from Crossens, will join nine other regional finalists at Specsavers in Liverpool today (Wednesday, September 7), to battle it out for a place in the national final of the optician chain's competition and become one step closer to winning the coveted title.

If he makes it through the North West heat, the retail store supervisor will bag a place on the catwalk at the star-studded national final in London later this year, where he could also win a year-long modelling contract, a Caribbean holiday, a makeover with TV hairdresser Andrew Barton and skincare and eyecare products.

”I’m so excited about getting through to the regional final. My girlfriend encouraged me to enter the competition online and thought I’d give it a try - I never imagined winning! I’d be really proud to represent the North West at the final.“

The national final will take place at the Boiler House Venue the iconic Battersea Power Station on November 15, when style guru Gok Wan will be presenting the awards.

Specsavers has raised nearly £5,000 for the anti-bullying charity Kidscape, by donating £1 for every eligble entry received in the competition.

The chain is also currently calling on residents to nominate their favourit celebrity specs wearer for an award, by logging on to
