Struggling first time buyers can have new properties
by Natasha Young

HOMES currently being built in two Southport housing developments will be offered to people struggling to get on to the property ladder.

A total of 79 new properties in the town, including 49 at Viginia Mews and 30 at Southport Hospital, will be made available to people who would otherwise be priced out of the market, following the launch of the Government's FirstBuy scheme.

The completed homes will be offered for sale via HomesHub, which is part of Plus Dane Group, one of the largest developing housing associations in the North West.

Elsewhere in Sefton, 54 new affordable homes in Bootle's Queens, St Elizabeth and Pine Grove areas and 12 in Sefton Village will be made available as part of the scheme.

Under the programme, which is jointly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and leading house builders, eligible buyers will have to pay just a five per cent deposit on properties and will be offered equity loans of up to 20% of the home’s value, meaning that they need only find a 75% mortgage.

Furthermore, repayments on the loan can be delayed by up to five years.

Director of HomesHub, Ben Clay, said: “This is exciting news for people in Southport, Bootle and Sefton who dream of owning their own home, but who are unable to afford today’s prices.

”To qualify, buyers need to be new to the property market and have a household income of less than £60K per year.

“As the government’s HomeBuy agent we take buyers every step of the way and this year alone have helped hundreds of individuals, couples and families move in to a home of their own.”
