Priest invites you to learn Buddhist art of meditation
by David Simister

AN UPHOLLAND priest who spent six months learning the art of meditation in Sri Lanka is now inviting West Lancashire residents to try out the technique for themselves.

Father Tony Sligo, a Catholic priest at St Teresa's Church on College Road, is holding a workshop on Saturday, February 11 to give residents the chance to find out more about the benefits of meditation, which he learned about during a six month visit to a Buddhist monastary in Sri Lanka

Jane Simpson, the church's parish secretary, said: “Father Tony is a Catholic Priest who teaches ”Buddhist Meditation“ and spent six months in solitude in a Buddhist Monastery in Sri Lanka.

”In the parish of St Teresa's in Up Holland where he now lives and works, there is a meditation group and monthly meditation days which employ this meditation used most famously by Buddhists, but here by Christians and others seeking the benefits of enlightenment.“

The church said the session, which is being held between 10am and 1pm, would provide an opportunity for practising meditation sitting and walking, including a full explanation of the method which incorporates Christian theology. The workshop is aimed at beginners (although experienced meditators are welcome), and will include a question and answer session.

The suggested donation for the workshop is £5, and anyone thinking of taking part is advised to bring a packed lunch. For more information contact St Teresa's Church on 01695 622001.
