Workmen start demolishing historic pub
by David Simister

WORK has begun on stripping out and demolishing an historic pub in the heart of Hesketh Bank.

As this week's edition went to press several Champion readers got in touch to report workers from Bolton-based firm Bradley Demolition Ltd on the site of the former Becconsall Hotell on Station Road, which has been closed since 2009.

The Champion understands that workmen have been stripping out the inside of the pub, including the historic Victorian-era bar, in preparation for the demolition of the pub itself.

Despite a long-running campaign to save the pub by the village's residents permission was granted by West Lancashire Borough Council for the site's demolition last December.

For a full follow up see next week's Champion.
