Plea to help find disabled Ben
by David Simister

BICKERSTAFFE residents are being asked for their help to track down a disabled dog which went missing more than three weeks ago.

Liz Hamilton is asking for any residents of the West Lancashire village who might have seen Ben, her 20-year-old Border Collie/Alsation cross, who went missing while out on a walk on Saxon Green, near Kirkby, on April 23.

She said she was appealing to Bickerstaffe residents in particular after she was contacted about a string of sightings of her dog in and around the village over the past fortnight.

“I am so worried that he will not be able to cope out there on his own. He has great difficulty walking and he could have easily collapsed somewhere,” she said.

“He is my soulmate and I can’t bear the thought of never seeing him again.”

Ben, who is ginger, brown and black in appearance, suffers from Parkinson's disease and also has reduced visibility due to problems resulting from cataracts over his eyes.

A spokesman for Doglost, an organisation which helping Kirkby resident Liz to track her dog down, said: “”We are particularly concerned for Ben because he is so elderly.

“We do really need more people to look out for him or join our organised searches for him. We would appeal for anyone with information to contact us.”

Anyone who thinks they have seen Ben can phone Liz on 07557 797578 or DogLost on 0844 800 3220. Readers can also follow the race to find Ben on where they can also print a poster to publicise his plight. There is a reward for his safe recovery.
