Music lovers urged to go to Mawdesley festival
by David Simister

MUSIC lovers are being invited to head to Mawdesley this weekend when a series of events aimed at showcasing the region's best bands and singers gets underway.

The organisers of Lakefest, now in its fourth year, said they are hoping that their family-orientated music festival will meet with even more success than previous events and have lined up two different events this Friday and Saturday (June 8 and 9) to draw fans to Rock and River, an outdoor activity centre based on Cliffs Farm on Wood Lane.

Festival spokesperson Lydia Hale said: “The family festival is now in its fourth year and this will be the biggest yet. This year we are running two separate events, firstly, on the evening of Friday 8th June, we have Chris Gaskell performing the music of Michael Buble. The main event follows on Saturday, when we have a full day of music and activities.

”Rock and River run a range of outdoor pursuits and we will be offering taster sessions of many of these on the Saturday from Archery to Kayaking, and from our zip line to water zorbing. We’ll have a bouncy castle and slide and many other things to entertain the younger children.

“We’ve got everything covered for the kids, but the adults can sit back and listen to a great selection of bands including music from headline act the Bogtrotters; and relax with a range of drinks, from quality real ale from Three Bees brewery to a glass of champagne at the cocktail bar. As always we’ll have a great selection of hot and cold food too.”

The gates open from 7pm for the Friday event, with tickets costing £7 each for adults and £3.50 for children. The main event on the Saturday runs from 12am to 8.30pm, with tickets costing £15 for adults and £7.50 for children. Parking is available at £3 each, and admission for children under four years is free.
