Tanks for the memories
by David Simister

A SMALL army's worth of military machines took to the West Lancashire countryside last weekend as part of a special show held at a pub in Scarisbrick.

Following the success of an earlier show at the Heatons Bridge Inn in April, members of the West Lancashire Military Vehicle Trust and their friends at the North Lancashire and South Cumbria Military Vehicle Trust brought a dozens of imposing vehicles to the pub's grounds last Saturday and Sunday (August 4 and 5) to give West Lancashire residents a chance to get up close to the machines.

Mark Lancaster of North Lancashire and South Cumbria MVT said this week: “On the Saturday we ended up with a total of 36 vehicles on site, with a total of 41 over the weekend.

”The weather stayed pretty good and there were plenty of public around, and on Saturday 11 vehicles decided to go out on a reccy around the local country lanes, but the enemy was not sighted, so we stopped for ice cream!“

”We all enjoyed ourselves and had alot of positive feedback from the public, thanks to everyone who supported the event and a big thank you to Steve and his staff at Heatons Bridge who looked after us so well over the weekend, we will be back next year.“

Both trusts thanked the staff at the Heatons Bridge - a pub with its own military connections, thanks to it having a World War Two pillbox on the site - for their hospitality, and the vintage bus enthusiasts at Merseyside Transport Trust for their additional support.
