Rantzen guest of Aughton group
by David Simister

TV personality Esther Rantzen, who has passed emails to police containing allegations about three high profile BBC figures – after her appearance on a documentary exposing Jimmy Savile as a child abuser, was a visitor to Aughton.

Rantzen paid a visit to speak with members of the village's University of the Third Age group.

The former presenter of That's Life and the founder of the charity ChildLine, Ms Rantzen said she passed the ‘general allegations’ – which were not made by the victims but by others with knowledge of the incidents – to detectives on the Savile probe.

She was the guest speaker at a meeting of Aughton and Ormskirk U3A at their meeting at Christ Church, on Long Lane, last Wednesday (October 24).

She said she was keen to help the older generation and talked to members about her new organisation, The Silver Line, which aims to help break the stigma of loneliness among old people.

The charity's aim is to provide a hotline, similar to the way ChildLine operates, but to help people who are of retirement age.

If you'd like to find out about The Silver Line visit or write to: 40 Queen Anne Street London W1G 9EL.
