Tributes paid to Hesketh Bank pub landlady
by David Simister

A FORMER pub landlady who spearheaded a campaign to save the historic building where she once worked has passed away at the age of 95.

Una McBride, who for a quarter of a century ran The Becconsall Hotel on Station Road, passed away on October 18, and this week her family paid tribute to her and her role in campaigning against the building's closure and eventual demolition.

Her daughter, also called Una, said this week: “I’m so sorry to let the world know, that God took our darling, beautiful, courageous little Mumsy home to Heaven very suddenly on Thursday, October 18, 2012.

”She is with dad again now, all who loved her and the angels. I ask you to please say a prayer for her soul, light a candle if you can and bless you.“

Mrs McBride, known locally as ”Mrs Mac“ started the campaign in 2009 to save the pub from demolition, despite being in her nineties, with members of her family supporting a village campaign to save the building.

The building was demolished in February, after plans to bulldoze the former pub and build a new housing development on the site were approved by West Lancashire Borough Council's planning committee.

A service in remembrance of Una McBride will be held at 1pm this Saturday (November 3) at Our Lady Help of Christians RC Church, in Tarleton.

For all details and to make a donation, which will be passed onto charity to help the elderly keep warm this winter, please contact W. H. Hull Funeral Directors on 01772 812409.
