Tarleton couple create 11 jobs at play centre
by David Simister

A TARLETON couple have found creating new jobs is child's play after starting a new business near the village.

Chris and Sara Brookes said they have created 11 new jobs by opening up a new children's indoor centre in a converted former barn at the Leisure Lakes holiday park, after they found they couldn't find a suitable centre for their own youngsters to play.

The new centre, which features a cafe and minature replicas of the shops in Tarleton village, was made possible after the pair were given a loan from the Cooperative Bank.

Former teacher Sara, 36, said: “Having been a teacher for so long I live and breathe education so Jollies Barn reflects that but it’s also good fun with lots of interaction.

”Chris and I spent a lot of time going to play centres for children’s parties or on days out and used to discuss how we could make them better. We wanted to make a play barn that felt more homely and were recommended to Gerald at The Co-operative Bank who couldn’t have been better.“

The business, called Jollies Barn, has taken on local graduate who was previously struggling to find work, several local mothers, two chefs and two qualified nurses, in what is being a welcomed as a boost to the local economy.

The miniature Tarleton at Jollies Barn features a play wagon based on those used by Huntapac, a local company which packs and distributes fruit and vegetables across the UK. Hairdressers Scott Charles also features as does Sooty’s Plants, a garden centre. Other Tarleton businesses are also being invited to contact Sara and Chris if they would like to feature at the play centre.

Gerald Waterfield, a representative of the Co-Operative Bank's corporate banking centre in Preston said: ”Sara and Chris have a great deal of experience in both education and business, using this they have created a new generation in play centres. Not only that they have created local jobs and are supporting other businesses by featuring them at the play centre.

“I am delighted to help them start their new business and look forward to supporting its future development and growth.”

Jollies Barn is due to open for the first time on December 1.
