More than 200 residents attend meeting to save library
by Natasha Young

MORE than 200 residents packed Liverpool Road Methodist Church on Saturday (November 17), as part of a campaign to stop the closure of Birkdale Library.

The Birkdale Library Action Group (BLAG) held the meeting to encourage residents to sign petitions to save the site, as the consultation into the potential closure of 13 libraries in the borough continues.

Local councillor Simon Shaw, who chaired the meeting, said: “The massive turnout of over 200 demonstrates just how strongly people feel about the threat to our local library. More than 25 have signed up to help BLAG in an active way and we will continue to campaign over the remaining 8 weeks of the consultation period.”
