Councillors to give views on stalled Banks home plans
by David Simister

WEST Lancashire councillors will be asked to give their view on plans to build dozens of new homes in Banks after the developer launched an appeal against the council's failure to reach a decision on the scheme.

Members of the borough council's planning committee will be asked to share their thoughts on plans to build 115 houses at a site off Greaves Hall Avenue, and to suggest how the local authority to respond to an appeal launched by developers Redrow Homes.

Last August the company submitted plans to the council but the the local authority's planning department failed to reach a decision on the plan within the designated eight week period, prompting Redrow to take the issue to the Planning Inspectorate, a nationwide body which oversees planning-related disputes.

The borough council asked for Redrow to submit additional information on its plans and extended the decision deadline to December 31 but the developer has excercised their right to appeal this decision, and as a result the matter is now being looked at by The Planning Inspectorate, a nationwide agency which investigates disputes related to planning.

The council's planning department has advised members of the planning committee, who meet in Ormskirk tomorrow night, that the applicant be advised that the council has no objections to the development in principle, and that the nationwide Planning Inspectorate be informed that the council will not seek to defend the appeal.

The matter will now be investigated during a Planning Inspectorate inquiry, due to take place later this month.
