Firefighters called to car blaze
by Natasha Young

A CAR caught fire in Aintree last Thursday night (January 31) due to a suspected electrical fault.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Melling Road at 7.11pm, where they wore breathing apparatus and used a hose jet to extinguish the flames in the engine compartment.

Around 80% of the engine compartment was severely damaged by fire, according to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

The passenger and driver compartment were also damaged by smoke.

One appliance from Aintree Community Fire Station attended, and had left the scene by 7.55pm.
