Music charity bid to buy Steinway grand piano
by David Simister

A WEST Lancashire charity which hosts concerts for the borough's music lovers has launched a bid to buy a Steinway grand piano for visiting performers to play on.

Douglas Music, based in Parbold, has launched an appeal to raise funds to buy an ex-concert grand piano, as part of its efforts to bring the best possible musical performances and shows to the community-run venue.

Michael Bonsall, who has been involved in organising the appeal, said: “This particular and rarely available instrument, built in 2000, has been identified by international pianist Martin Roscoe, and we have only a few weeks to finalise the deal.”

“Though substantial funds have been raised, Douglas Music is seeking donations from the public to bridge the final gap of a few thousand pounds.

”Douglas Music wishes to acquire it to match the quality of the pianists, both solo and accompanists, that are being attracted to Parbold’s Arena Auditorium.“

The appeal's organisers said that if they are successful in bringing the Steinway to the venue, it will help them to attract even more top class, international performers to West Lancashire.

Douglas Music said that in its upcoming season it will be attracting a host of critically accliamed musicians, including pianist, Nicolai Demidenko and violinist, Alina Ibragimova, and Coppull-born, operatic soprano, Amanda Roocroft among others. Several artists have already lent their support to the appeal, including pianists Stephen Hough, John Lill, Martin Roscoe, Noriko Ogawa, Nicolai Demidenko, and Sunwook Kim.
