Tarleton roadworks due to be completed today
by David Simister

ROADWORKS which have caused severe delays for motorists travelling through Tarleton are due to finish today (March 15), the county council has said.

A number of Champion readers got in touch earlier this week after being caught up in delays caused by repair work at Bank Bridge, which carries the A59 main road over the River Douglas and links both Sefton and West Lancashire with Preston.

Rob Goulding, highways manager, said: “This work is causing some quite severe delays as the only way we can make the repairs safely is by closing one lane to traffic. We're very sorry for the inconvenience to people whose journeys have been delayed and grateful for their patience while waiting to get past the works.

”Our crews are starting early and finishing late to get the job done as soon as we can and minimise disruption as far as possible. I'd ask drivers who have alternative routes available to consider using them while these works are ongoing.“

Only one lane is open to traffic with the other lane closed to allow the work to be carried out safely, and temporary lights controlling the flow of traffic in both directions. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, particularly the A581 between Croston and Rufford.

Work is being carried out to fix damage to the parapet wall of Tarleton Bank Hall Bridge and safety barriers on the approach to the bridge.
