Britain's top secret agent at community-run cinema...
by David Simister

GET the chance to see Britain's top secret agent in action when a community-run cinema in West Lancashire screens the latest 007 blockbuster.

Parbold Picture House, an award-winning cinema based at Parbold Village Hall, confirmed this week they would be showing an eclectic selection of new and classic films, including the latest James Bond film, Skyfall. It follows a screening of the classic Bond outing From Russia With Love, after a competition run jointly with The Champion saw residents vote it as their favourite 007 movie.

Michael Bonsall, cinema spokesperson, said: “You will see we have included Skyfall to follow up the successful Champion Bond competition. I have not been surprised by it winning lots of awards.”

“We are also including in this series and the one to follow in the summer all the great films that have been competing for honours this year.”

The next showings are two live broadcasts as part of the cinema's tie-up with the National Theatre, with Alan Bennett's “People” being beamed in from London tomorrow night (March 21) and Madama Butterfly, as shown at the Sydney Opera House, next Tuesday night. They will be followed by a showing of Skyfall, on the evening of Sunday, March 31.

Ben Affleck's award-winning true story based on the Canadian interventions in Iran, Argo, will be shown at the West Lancashire venue on the evening of Sunday, April 14, while Silver Linings Playbook, starring Robert de Niro, will be shown on Sunday, April 28.

For more details of screening times and ticket prices either go online to or give the cinema's box office a call on 01257 464533.
