Blood Bikers rev up for a special fundraising event
by David Simister

A GROUP of keen bikers who keep emergency supplies of blood on the move will be holding a night of entertainment at a Tarleton pub to raise funds for their charity.

The North West Blood Bikes members, a group of riders who help transport emergency supplies of blood and breast milk, have joined forces with the Cock and Bottle pub to hold a fundraising evening on Saturday, April 13, which begins at 7pm.

Dion Penston, one of the event's organisers, told The Champion: “Our aim is to take the strain and cost of transporting not only delivering emergency blood and milk supplies but also doing regular runs each day/night from Southport, Ormskirk, Preston and Chorley hospitals as well as having riders on call through the night.

”People who know what we do may not realise we also take expressed breast milk from the Countess of Chester to Royal Preston when needed to aid the recovery of poorly babies. Our volunteers do this for differing reasons - for me it is a way of giving something back to Southport hospital and the NHS who looked after my late wife through her fight with cancer, which she sadly lost last year.“

The event, which includes the cost of dinner and entertainment, costs £15, with all proceeds going to help North West Blood Bikers. A blood bike will also be on display outside the pub on Saturday, April 6 to help promote the event and the charity.
