Community centre's plea for more food
by Henry James

HELPERS at Digmoor Community Centre have sent out a plea for residents to donate food, which they would use in their food parcel and soup kitchen schemes.

Residents are being asked to leave the food at the centre, or at the Asda supermarket.

Margaret Highton, Digmoor Community Centre chairman said: “The centre runs the soup kitchen on a Monday and Wednesday and we need more food, especially tins. We are looking for fresh food and need eggs and potatoes.

”The centre needs donations of clothes as well, which we can sell to enable us to raise money to buy food.

“We have been working with Asda, Procter and Gamble and Tawd Vale Lions and I can't thank them enough for their support. It has allowed us to help so many people.

”At the centre, we have been able to assist a number of people with a range of financial difficulties. The majority of people are referred through agencies.“

There will be a fundraising day at the centre on Bank Holiday Monday with stalls, a bouncy castle and an Easter egg hunt (weather permitting). The event will take place from 11am-4pm. There will also be roast cooked meal for £3.
