Family Fun Weekend at Wharf
by Henry James

THERE is a Family Fun Weekend at Burscough Wharf this Bank Holiday (May 25-27).

Organisers of the event have said that this is set to be Burscough Wharf’s biggest fun weekend yet with a host of family entertainment planned including music and dance, face painting, locally produced beers, and a BBQ.

For budding singers there will also be an open mic opportunity organized by Adam Christopher’s School of Musical Excellence.

From 1pm each day, taste buds are set to be tickled all over West Lancashire as a host of locally produced ciders, beers and sausages will be on sale along with a hog roast prepared by the Blue Mallard. There will be live music and family entertainment throughout the afternoons and evenings.

On Sunday the return of the popular annual Burscough Wharf Raft Race will take place as teams of local groups, businesses, friends compete to stay afloat. The race will start at Wheat Lane Swing Bridge at approx. 1.15pm with the finishing line at Burscough Wharf. Donations for entry will be given to the Alfie Lund Fund, forms can be collected from MBark.

For those who don’t want to risk getting wet, there’s a drier option of taking part in the duck race. Ducks can be purchased for £2 – proceeds also going to the Alfie Lund Fund and mental health charity MIND in memory of Karen Simpson. There will be a cash prize awarded to the winning duck.

Admission for the weekend is free.
