Hen shed fire was arson
by Ollie Cowan

A FIRE raged through Fine Jane's Poultry farm on Daisy Way near Halsall last night (Wednesday June 19).

Emergency services were called shortly after 4pm to reports of a derelict hens shed on fire, which had spread to two other buildings on the site.

Eye witnesses who live a few doors away from the fire said they reported hearing explosions which led firefighters to suspect gas cylinders were still inside the burning 10mx15m shed.

Seven fire crews from both Merseyside and Lancashire were called to tackle the blaze, which required four jets of water to be extinguished.

Two firemen wearing breathing apparatus entered all three buildings to make sure nobody was trapped inside.

An investigation is now under way as to the cause of the fire, which fire chiefs say is most likely arson.

West Lancashire police were also called to primarily deal with traffic at the junction of Benthams Way and Stamford Road.

They are now working with fire services to conduct a full investigation. Anybody with any information is asked to call 101.
