Nathan zooms in on big TV break
by Ollie Cowan

AN Edge Hill student has spent his summer helping to film and edit a sitcom set in Manchester.

Nathan Greenwood, 20, was filming the likes of former Coronation Street actor, Brian Capron, Shameless star, Ciaran Griffiths and DJ, Pat Sharp for the pilot of new comedy, Staff Room.

Co-written by Ryan McDermott and Adam Brown, Staff Room has already had messages of support from celebrities such as Ricky Gervais and Johnny Vegas and garnered a massive internet buzz, with the trailer already reaching more than 10,000 views on You Tube.

Nathan, who is currently studying film and television at the Ormskirk campus, lived with director Ryan McDermott for most of the summer while he was helping to edit.

He said: “I enjoyed every minute and would go back now if I could.

”It’s the first time I have worked as a cinematographer on a production but have done similar roles on two independent feature films.

“The cast features the likes of Brian Capron, Zoe Lister (Hollyoaks) and Ciaran Griffiths, but everyone was amazing to work with throughout and their performances were unreal.”

Despite the massive amount of attention it’s now receiving the editing process was not without complications.

“With the initial week of filming certain things didn’t quite work, which is normal when making a comedy, especially one with so little prep.

”The team quickly rectified the things that didn’t work and we re-shot several scenes, which were exactly what Ryan and Adam Brown wanted.“

Former Edge Hill student Lydia Brown, 22, who helped Nathan acquire his big break on Staff Room worked on the comedy as a script supervisor.

She said: ”It was just an incredible opportunity to get on to a real working set and meet such a dedicated team.“

After receiving such positive reviews and with talks of a series in the pipeline Nathan remains positive for the future.

”My hopes are that the show is commissioned and the team are given the chance to work together again.

“Overall, I just hope that Ryan and Adam get the result they have worked so hard for.”
