Pool of Remembrance memorial opens at Jospice
by Tom Martin

A SPECIAL memorial has been built at the Jospice in Thornton and will offer local residents a unique way to remember loved ones.

“The Pool of Remembrance” is made up of 156 glass bricks and each one can be individually inscribed with a name and personal message.

The bricks have been built to form a large circular construction with water in the middle.

Work had been carried out for the past few months but it has finally been completed and orders have already been placed for 25 bricks.

The grand opening on Friday October 4 was attended by Lord-Lieutenant of Liverpool, Dame Lorna Muirhead, and also the Mayor of Sefton.

Supporters and friends of St Joseph's Hospice, on Ince Road, were also invited to the event and enjoyed afternoon tea.

Director of Fundraising & Communications, Pat Murphy, said: “Already this has proved very popular with a good number of our supporters.

”The construction blends in very well with the woodland surroundings, and we are delighted that the donations that are made will be used directly for patient care here at Jospice“.

The inscription of a glass brick costs £500 and this will remain there for at least ten years – or there is also an option to pay for a brick for a period of ten months.

The pool can then be visited at any time and will even be illuminated at night.
