Residents join forces for clean up of estates
by Tom Martin

LOCAL residents and school children have joined forces to help clean up three litter-covered estates in Bootle and Litherland.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Primary School, in Litherland, teamed up with neighbours in a bid to try and improve the look of the area.

It was part of an initiative led by One Vision Housing that owns the estates on King Avenue, in Bootle, as well as Ford Lane and Dale Acre Drive, both in Litherland.

And the idea has led to Keep Britain Tidy, which is a national charity aimed at cleaning up roads across the country, giving the company three awards for their efforts.

The awards, one for each estate, mean that the streets will now boast the ‘clean, safe and green’ kitemark in recognition of the achievement.

Keep Britain Tidy assessors were particularly impressed with the work carried out at the Ford Lane Community Centre and the estate’s urban garden.

A member of staff from One Vision Housing, Mark Manns, said: “The assessors told us it was one of the most positive, forward-looking assessments they’ve ever done.”

The recent Keep Britain Tidy awards are the sixth the company has attained in the last few years, following those awarded to the Marsh Lane, Woodvale and Kings Park estates.

Local resident, Paul Lydiate said: “We’ve worked closely with staff from One Vision Housing over the last two years to help improve the look of our estate.

”All our hard work has paid off and the estate is now a lot cleaner and a much better place to live.“
