Football club pull together and raise £1,000 for charity
by Tom Martin

AN AMATEUR football club from Litherland has managed to raise £1,000 for charity.

Players and staff at Remyca F. C, based at Litherland Sports Park, pulled together and sponsored fellow club member Ron Winstanley to run the Chester Marathon.

It was all in aid of CLIC Sargent, which is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children, young people and their families.

The organisation, based in Southport, provides clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life.

An official cheque presentation took place at the club's Litherland home and Chairman Don Rimmer was quick to point out that the money will be going to a worthwhile cause.

He said: “We are keen to be at the heart of the community not only in terms of football but also to support good causes.

”One of our veteran players Ron Winstanley began training for the Chester Marathron and decided to seek sponsorship.

“A club member had endured the personal experience of a child suffering cancer so we viewed this as a suitable cause.

”The response from people within the club has been fantastic and created a real feel good factor.

“We now intend to develop matters further by promoting CLIC Sargent through the club as a worthy charity and continue fundraising initiatives.

”This also fits with our values and ethos as a community club and we hope people in the area will support our efforts“.

Remyca F. C have a first team, a reserve team, a veterans side and also a junior section.
