MEMBERS of a tea dance in Litherland have pulled together and raised £600 for charity.

Members of St. Philip's Tea Dance went through 12 months of fundraising and they were proud to hand over a cheque to the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).

A number of raffles, table sales and other events were held across 2013.

The overall amount has delighted organisers of the community group and an official presentation took place at the Litherland-based Royal British Legion on Wednesday, January 12.

Tea Dance organiser, Pat Martin, said: “The money has been raised little by little with 50p being given here and there.

”It all adds up and we are very happy with the total figure.

“We have had a number of fundraising events and also placed a donation box at the library.”

The group, who invite members to go on short holidays and weekend trips, is celebrating its 11th birthday later this month.

Pat, added: “The cheque presentation was very successful and the representative from RNLI seemed very grateful.

”A lot of our members turned up to show their support and it was a great day.

“When we raised the money we didn't know what charity to help out.

”We therefore put it to a vote and the RNLI had the overall majority which is wonderful because it is a very worthwhile cause“.

The RNLI provides a 24-hour search and rescue operation around the UK and Ireland along with a seasonal lifeguard service.
