All light on the night for Plaza Cinema's neon signs
by Tom Martin

THE Plaza Cinema in Waterloo has unveiled its new state-of-the-art sign after an official switch-on event was held.

Staff at the community venue, on Crosby Road North, even made a special button that was pressed following a countdown to light up the sign.

The event, held last week, coincided with the release of Godzilla and long lines of people could be seen during the switch-on.

Staff had submitted a proposal to erect the neon sign at the side of the building which was approved earlier this year by Sefton Council.

It was supplied by firm Benson Signs and has added to the modern look of the cinema which will also be boosted by plans to place an LED screen on the front of the building to advertise films.

It comes in the same week as the Plaza announced a fresh initiative to work with the local foodbank with the hope that the cinema can help raise donations for the charity.

Staff are asking anyone who pays £2.60 to watch a film on ‘Plaza Wednesdays' to also give one item of food that will be passed on to the foodbank.

Plaza manager, Martin Fol, said: “The new neon is part of the legacy of the Plaza which will light up the sky for a long time”.
