A CROSBY site manager of a housing plot has become the first woman in five years to win a national award for “high standards” of work.

Jessica Licence, 28, who works for Bellway Homes in Ainsdale, has scooped the National Home Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Award which is given out every year.

It would usually mark a huge success for the winner but it is even more special for Jessica as she is the first female to be given the accolade since 2009.

She started working for the house builder in 2004 as an apprentice but rose up through the ranks and became the site manager in November 2013.

It has taken less than 12 months for Jessica to make her mark and her work ethic has been highlighted by the NHBC as a key reason behind her success.

Jessica said: “I am honoured to receive the Pride in the Job Award, and be the first female to be rewarded with the accolade since 2009.  It is such a highly acclaimed award and an impressive achievement for any site manager.

”I always wanted a career that continually challenged me and working in an industry that is typically male-orientated certainly does that.

“However, Bellway Homes has always been supportive of me, taking me on as an apprentice joiner and allowing me to fulfil my ambition to become a site manager.  I am truly thrilled with my award and hope it is the first of many.”

Jenny Bell, sales director at Bellway Homes, added: “We are absolutely delighted that Jessica has been awarded her first Pride in the Job Award.

”She is one of only a couple of females in the country to ever receive it, and the first female site manager at Bellway Home to achieve the Pride in the Job award, so it really is a great achievement and wonderful news.

“Not only has Jessica set exceptionally high standards as a site manager, but she has made her mark in the industry in the North West.  Her hard work, knowledge and experience on site clearly impressed the NHBC.”

Mike Quinton, NHBC Chief Executive, said: “It is great to see such success in what is traditionally a male-dominated industry. Jessica is delivering new homes of outstanding quality and should be rightly proud of her achievement. This award marks her out as a top site manager for house building in the UK and I wish her the best of luck in the later rounds of the competition.”
