Old Roan pub set for £200k revamp
by Tom Martin

OWNERS of the Old Roan pub have pledged to splash out £200,000 on refurbishing the building once a landlord is found to take on the establishment.

Pub company Enterprise Inns say they still plan to re-open the Copy Lane venue and large signs have been placed outside the building stating “This pub could be yours! Investment planned of £200,000.”

They are now seeking to hire someone for the role and they are welcoming applicants to come forward.

The pub was closed down last year at the request of Merseyside Police after a mass brawl at the venue after which six people were arrested.

A petition was then set up opposing the closure stating that it was a community venue and championed the local music scene.

Some nearby residents, however, welcomed the closure as they claimed noise from the venue late at night affected their quality of life, and that it was a centre for disturbances.

Enterprise Inns state that entertainment, including live music, will be key to the success of the new business but that the pub will attract “families and couples” with meals offered.

A spokesperson for Enterprise Inns said: “The Old Roan is on the market for the first time in a number of years. It offers a wide appeal, attracting locals, families and couples as well as passing trade.

”The pub is situated at the heart of the community with weekends attracting large groups of the locals to share the experience of a big night out and enjoy the sports offer.

“The refurbishment will support a hybrid wet led community local complemented by a value for money food offer.

”Entertainment is key to the success of this business hence the refurbishment will allow a structured entertainment offer for sports viewing and live music.

“Enterprise require an experienced Publican with the ability to further develop the trade both wet and dry and benefit from the strong local customer base.”
