Tourism video highlights best resort has to offer
by Ollie Cowan

A NEW TOURISM information video has been launched to coincide with the unveiling of a twelve page magazine wich aims to boost the resort's conference appeal.

Southport Conference Bureau, a team of business partners led by Sefton Council's Tourism unit, has launched the latest edition of its ‘Delegate News’.

The 12 page magazine is designed to help delegates make the most of their time in the resort and contains information on where to eat, where to stay as well as details of events and attractions delegates may wish to visit during their conference or at a later date.

The 2015 edition includes articles on the Egyptology Exhibition at The Atkinson, the recently refurbished King's Gardens, Southport Pier and important event dates for the Southport Air Show, Flower Show and British Musical Fireworks Championship.

To accompany the magazine, a short tourism information video has been launched starring Southport Business Improvement District Manager Andrew Sloman, Southport Conference Bureau's Sammi Rudge and a host of other famous faces from across the resort.

The 3 minute short aims to encourage more businesses and tourists to visit the resort - although since its launch on February 17 it has only received 26 views at the time of going to press.

In the video Andrew Sloman welcomes people to the ‘cosmopolitan resort' and says you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in Paris.

He said: “Some claim that Napoleon the Third lived just off Lord Street during exile and it was these streets that gave him the inspiration to return to Paris when he became emperor and transform its streets into what you see today.

”But it's not just our architecture that's impressive. We also have a fabulous range of quality shops with a number of high street brands to the boutique and the unique!

“Our food is pretty impressive too. With over 100 tea rooms, cafes and restaurants to choose from, serving everything from Italian to Indian, from Japanese to Lebanese! And of course traditional British fish and chips - delicious!

Sammi Rudge from Southport conferences then takes over the video, adding: ”My absolute favourite thing to do in Southport is to take the mile long walk out to sea on the oldest surviving iron pier in the country.

Its been here over 150 years!“

Emma Anderson, Director of the Atkinson then narrates, encouraging people to visit the Lord Street based Art Gallery and Museum.

She said: ”What better place to visit than the Atkinson? During the day we have an amazing museum and art gallery for you to enjoy. In the evening we have a rich and varied entertainment programme in our theatres.

“If a visit to the Atkinson leaves you with a taste for more culture and heritage why not visit the British Lawnmower museum which houses machines from across a 200 year time frame.”

Next is the turn of Enda Rylands who manages the Ramada Hotel to wax lyrical about Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

He said: “Royal Birkdale is at the heart of England's golf coast and one of the many courses in the area - don't forget once you've finished your round of golf you can take advantage of one of the many great spa facilities in the resort.”
