Snack hungry man caught drink driving
by Guest

GOING for a late night snack has cost a Netherton man his license after he was caught drink-driving.

Appearing at Sefton Magistrates Court on July 1 Christopher Partington, 32, of Park Lane, pleaded guilty to driving with 86 micrograms of alcohol in his breath when the legal limit is 35mcg/100nml.

The court heard he caught the attention of police at 1.20am on June 10 when “his reverse light was illuminating and he appeared to be struggling with a manoeuvre” in his Vauxhall Zafira near his home address.

He was stationary when they pulled up alongside him and detected alcohol on his breath, the prosecutor said, and he seemed to be rocking backwards and forwards when he got out of the car.

Solicitor Joe Cheminais said that Partngton “appeared to be extremely remorseful” and had never been before the courts before.

He’d been out for a drink with friends and after returning home by taxi decided he wanted some food.

“He made the foolish decision to go to get some food from Macdonalds,” he said, adding: “It’s a decision that’s going to lead to him being disqualified for some time.”

Fining him £240 and ordering that he pay a total of £259 in accumulated costs, the magistrates banned him from driving for 18 months, but gave him the option to reduce the ban by 18 weeks if he takes the drink-driving awareness course.
